4 Ways to Become Rich

By Pauline

Unless you are lucky enough to marry someone wealthy or win the lottery, getting rich is not a fast process. But there are four ways to become rich if you really want to build wealth.

This is a post from Kayla of FrugalRules.com. Kayla is a personal finance blogger in her mid-20s who loves to write about money topics of all kinds. Let me know if you would like to guest post on Savvy Scot!

We all want to become rich, but that doesn’t mean everyone is able to accomplish this feat. Unfortunately, many people try to become rich by using a “get rich quick” scheme, something that hardly ever works.

Most of the time, these suckers end up wasting money instead of making money or building wealth to become rich. The real secret to becoming rich is to avoid these schemes. Thus, you will not find information here about how to get rich quick.

Unless you are lucky enough to marry someone wealthy or win the lottery, getting rich is not a fast process. But there are four ways to become rich if you really want to build wealth.

Dedicate Yourself to Cutting Your Spending

For most of us, cutting your spending is much easier to say than to put into practice. Just saying you are going to spend less than you earn is easy – until you are convinced by your friends to go out for an expensive night on the town. Or, maybe your downfall is the cute, but pricey, outfit you just saw in the mall. You may be able to live without it, but it’s perfect for you and so cute you just have to have it, right? Wrong.

If you are really serious about cutting your spending and making changes instead of just talking about it, you have to have discipline and dedication even when it’s difficult. When you are tempted, you need to be able to say “no” and walk away. It takes hard work and self-control, but it can be done and the rewards are worth it as you build your savings and become rich.

Focus on Your Career

The second thing you can do to help you on your way to becoming rich is to focus on your career. Do you enjoy what you do every day? If you like your job, it will go a long way toward helping you toward your goal of accumulating wealth.

People who like what they do tend to be happier, which translates into them doing a better job while on the job. First, find a field you enjoy and then concentrate on being the best at what you do.

Make it your mission to continually improve what you do and how you do it in addition to becoming valuable to your employer. Taking these steps will help you move up the ladder faster and enable you to gain not only promotions but higher pay as well.

Eliminate Debt

As you decrease your spending and increase your income through hard work, you must take caution not to start spending more simply because you make more. In fact, you need to get rid of any debt you may have.

Apply extra money to high interest debts and get them paid off. Then apply more money to either the next high interest debt, or the smallest debt, if that is your preference, until it is paid as well. Continue to do this without accumulating more debt and you will soon find yourself debt free and able to accumulate wealth instead.

Invest

Once you have your spending, career, and debt under control, you should have some extra money each month. Instead of going back to old spending habits, invest it for the future.

Unless you are lucky enough to marry someone wealthy or win the lottery, getting rich is not a fast process. But there are four ways to become rich if you really want to build wealth.

There are many ways to do this. If your employer offers a 401K plan, get signed up and start making contributions. Or, invest in real estate if that is your preference. Another option to begin investing would be to invest in the stock market. There are plenty of options out there to help you with your goal of becoming rich.

According to those who have had success getting rich, it isn’t an overnight process. It takes time and perseverance, but it can be done if you want it bad enough. Using these 4 ways to become rich can help you successfully reach your goal of accumulating wealth.
