Get cash back for a cause with Giving Assistant

By Pauline

We all try to save money when we shop, and for online shopping one easy trick is to look for coupon codes upon check out. I don’t know if you do it often, but I find the process pretty frustrating. The coupon codes rarely work, and it takes quite some time to browse several sites before finding one that does. Enters Giving Assistant, a website that offers guaranteed discounts in the form of cash back. How does it work? Well, you make a purchase, and then part of the price is refunded back to your Giving Assistant account. On average, over their 1,800+ partner stores, they offer 5% cash back on your online purchases. It is like a loyalty program. And instead of giving you half of the cash, and keeping the rest, Giving Assistant gives you 100%. Wait, that’s not all. They will also make a donation for Feeding America for the price of one meal every time you get cash back. And you can choose to give your cash back to the charity of your choosing.

The process is super easy. First, head on to Giving Assistant, and register either using your Facebook account or an email. It takes just a few clicks.

Now that you are registered, you can download a button for your browser, so that every time you shop, you are notified of the offers for that specific retailer.

Ready? Let’s start shopping! There are hundreds of stores to choose from, from HP to Forever 21, you can find pretty much anything.

Hotels.com for example is offering 7% cash back, and I have decided to try that out. The particular brand page gives you more information on how to obtain it, as well as extra deals, like a $100 rebate or 12% off hotel bookings for Halloween.

When choosing to start shopping now, you will be reminded of the specifics to obtain cash back from that particular retailer.

You need to disable your AdBlocker, start with an empty shopping cart and complete the purchase within 24 hours. The 7% cash back will be paid once the trip is completed.

Giving Assistant then takes you to the retailer with a tracker so you can start earning your cash back. Make sure you read and understand all the conditions. For example, for shopping at Macy’s, you also get 7%, but 0% on Apple products. You can pick a discount code for extra savings!

Now that is where it gets interesting. Once you have received your cash back, you can decide to donate part or all of it to charity.

You can pick the charity of your choice among a wide selection.

If you decide to cash your earnings, you can receive them fee-free via PayPal weekly, or quarterly by mailed check, as long as your balance is over $5.
