5 Tips to Travel on A Tight Budget

By Pauline

Traveling on a tight budget is not that hard if you keep a few points in mind. We’ve compiled a list of 5 of the best tips you should undertake to ensure a fun holiday on minimum expenses.

Whether it’s a long vacation or a weekend trip, a holiday always incurs more expenditure than we initially think it would. How many times have we gazed longingly at a site only to realize that it is beyond our budget? How many times have we changed our plans in order to save money? Well, not to fret. There are various things one can do to reduce the expenditure while on a holiday. Traveling on a budget is not that hard if you keep a few points in mind. We’ve compiled a list of 5 of the best tips you should undertake to ensure a fun holiday on minimum expenses.

  1. Accommodation and Lodging

Who doesn’t like four and five star hotels, but spending huge amounts of money for small and cute bottles of shampoo and conditioner is not wise either. Fresh sheets and towels can be very appealing but will drain your pockets very quickly. Opt for affordable, clean and budget hotels. You are not going to spend your entire holiday in a room anyway, you’ll be busy checking out the wonders of the city. Websites like Airbnb and couch surfing allows travellers to check out cheap rooms and local accommodations available for rent. You can also check out apps like Oyo rooms for inexpensive and nice rooms.

  1. Planning Ahead

A very important point to keep in mind. The longer you wait, the more you’ll have to pay. Flight tickets, hotel rooms rack up their prices on a day to day basis. Planning early on helps save a lot of money which you can use elsewhere. So, don’t wait till the last minute to plan your trip.

  1. Say No to Fine Dining

Ditch the fancy restaurants and fine dining and try to enjoy the local cuisine at small places. This will save you some cash while giving you a taste of how the locals live on a day to day basis. Drinks can be expensive depending upon the location and the bar. An easy way is to either buy a bottle of whiskey or your favourite beverage or to order a pint of beer at the bar which is usually the most inexpensive of all. Breakfasts are usually complimentary at some places, saving you important bucks. Buying yourself some essential items like milk, fruits, cheese, vegetables etc. can help avoid eating out too much at the same time ensuring a healthy diet.

  1. Travel Off Season

Summer, spring and winter break are the busiest times of the year. Airlines and hotels hike their prices in these seasons. The peak time also depends on your choice of destination. So, plan early and choose a less busy season to undertake your journey. You’ll end up saving money and enjoy a less crowded holiday too. Your holiday destination will also offer off-season discounts and prices which you must check.

  1. Look Up the Discounts and Coupons

The local stores or big merchandises often offer discounts during various times of the year. Looking these up will help you save money on necessary items that you might need for your trip. Another major expenditure are souvenirs. Souvenirs are necessary but expensive. Try discounts at various stores or local shops and stalls to get authentic and inexpensive materials for your friends and family.

Just following these five tips will help save you money while you experience an incredible holiday with your loved ones. While saving, money is important, do not put money over your safety. Choose safe lodging facilities and healthy and hygienic places to have your meals.
