The cost of living compared between countries

By Pauline

Have you ever wondered what it costs to buy one same item around the world? When I was living in London, I often cringed at the high prices of everything, but on the plus side, traveling abroad seemed very affordable. Research from 247Moneybox.com shows that there are indeed places on Earth that are even dearer than London.

A cappucino will cost you £2.97 in our capital, while you will have to fork out £3.21 in New York City. Ouch. And almost £600 more for a one bedroom flat! That is something to consider if you plan on relocating long term, for a job or to study.

On the other hand, I was surprised to see rents are relatively cheap in Vancouver, at £920 per month for a one bedroom, it is the most affordable of all four cities surveyed. It also has the cheapest pint, at £3.46!

What stands out here for me is that your biggest expense will always be your rent. It doesn’t make such a difference if a movie ticket is going to be £7 or £12, but here you have four big cities with rents from £920 to £2,220. A £1,300 difference that you should better make in extra income if you ever move to NYC!
