9 Tips On Saving Money While Moving House

By Pauline

moving-home

Eventually you’ll have to move someplace else and usually the move will be expensive and tedious. Here are ten ways to cut the bills while moving to your new home.

1 – Close the deal quick

Don’t waste too much time on negotiating and looking for buyers. There are a lot of service that will let you sell on short notice. This will save you time and effort on closing the deal for your home. Quick Move Now will buy up your property and make the process hassle-free.

2 – Declutter

Cut all the possessions you don’t really need. Sell what you can on eBay or Gumtree and make some quick cash on useless items. This will also save you space on the moving van. There’s no better opportunity to declutter than when you’re moving away.

3 – Move on a weekday

Removal companies charge more on weekends. The best time to move is probably on a weekday. The roads are less busy and you’ll get a better rate on delivery. It’s easier getting a van hired as well since not many people move on weekdays.

4 – Check your insurance

There’s a chance your home insurance will cover the move to your new house. If it doesn’t, check to see if the removal company covers your possessions. Having something break en route is the quickest way to blow your moving budget.

5 – Used boxes

Removal companies sometimes charge extra for the boxes, so you might as well use your own. Look around the house to see if you can find some big enough boxes lying around.

6 – Pack yourself

Get friends and family to help you pack. That way you don’t need to pay the removal company extra labour charges.

7 – Buy furniture from charity shops

Charity shops are great for bargain hunters. Look around your new neighbourhood and see if you can find something worth putting up at your new house. You can also look online. Ebay and Craigslist have listings for used goods that you could help upcycle.

8 – Shop around for the best utility

New customers always get better deals with utility companies. It’s important to use this to your advantage. Haggle with all the major utility companies in your area and get the best deal possible. Negotiating a better deal after you’ve lived in the house for while is easier said than done.

9 – Change the address online

Banks and utility companies need to know where you are. Change all the details online so that all these services are notified of your move. It’s best to get this done once you have the Internet connected at your new house. Using a 0845 number is just going to cost you more.

These are some simple ways to save money while moving house. Some of these steps are precautionary (like insurance) but you’ll be glad you thought about it before you get started. The trick is to do your research and save money by doing much of the work yourself.
