Why Working Harder WON’T Help Your Business Make Money

By Pauline

One of the basic precepts of the American dream is that, the harder you work, the more successful you’ll become as a result. Unfortunately, the real world doesn’t always function like that. While working longer hours is obviously valuable –– and an important aspect of attaining one’s goals –– it’s not the only thing necessary to creating a thriving business. So instead of spending your time burning the midnight oil and spreading yourself too thin, here are a few ways you can get your business moving in the right direction –– without breaking a sweat!

Recycle Great Content

Nearly every small business struggles to create compelling content regularly. Indeed, whether you’re looking to promote collagen coated culture vessels or vintage pinball machines, maintaining a steady stream of content on your blog and across social media platforms is just about the best way to keep your business relevant. However, making great content consistently is a process that requires all sorts of hard work. The good news is, you can reuse old blog posts to help improve your SEO and online visibility by adding links to other pages on your website. Not only will this improve reader engagement, it’ll also probably land you a few leads in the process.

Sleep on it

While it may be admirable to work for nineteen hours straight, missing out on valuable sleep is going to negatively affect your work. It’s more important that what you produce for your clients meets their expectations, rather than their deadlines. So if you find yourself constantly struggling to finish projects, you may want to consider making another hire, or rearranging responsibilities within your office.

Delegate

To build on the previous point, if your company is going to excel you need to learn to trust those around you. Taking on more than you can handle is one sure-fire way to upset clients and miss out on big opportunities. That’s why it’s essential to hire people you can trust and who you believe in. Letting go of some responsibilities will allow you to focus on the big picture –– and get you that much closer to achieving your dreams!

Work Smarter

This is a no-brainer. Cultivating a strong work ethic is a wonderful trait to possess, and one that will definitely help you and your business grow. But you’ll only really see marked improvements once you start thinking outside the box. To do that, you’ll need to take your nose away from the grindstone and take time out to examine how your business functions. Accomplish that and everything else will fall into place down the line.
