We All Live in a Beautiful World

By savvyscot

Live

Welcome to my blog and to my very first post. I want to spend this post giving you a little background information on some of my life experiences. This will give you an idea if we have anything in common and if you might want to return to read future posts. I’ll start at the beginning.

I was brought up in the North of Scotland, in a family that loved ‘doing things’. Every weekend was ram packed with activities and I quickly found a passion for the outdoors and adventure. This continued throughout my childhood and consequently, I tried a lot of activites: Judo, fencing, swimming, playing the tuba, skiing, rock climbing, waterepolo, to name a few. Now I didn’t do these all at once, nor did I stick everything out; you might call me a quitter – and some did. But I had a lot of experiences. This attitude stuck with me. I discovered some of the things I loved, while I found out what turned me off. I realised something incredibly valuable: Life is all about the experiences. Hillary Cooper said it well:

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away”

This set a president in my life – live life to the max and follow your dreams!

My life then went through numerous transitions –

  • I went to university
  • I traveled a lot of the world (USA, Mexico, South Africa, Thailand and Europe)
  • Grew an interest in self development
  • Interned in the US for two consecutive summer breaks
  • I learned to fly
  • Went skydiving
  • Setup a business
  • Skied a lot
  • Took out loads of credit cards
  • Started to dabble in cooking
  • Learned to snowboard
  • Passed my test and got a motorbike
  • Became known as an impulse buyer
  • Became obsessed with the gym
  • Found my passion for scuba diving (maybe an obsession)
  • Graduated
  • Became obsessed with personal finance
  • Realised I have an addictive personality
  • Got a ‘real’ job
  • Got married
  • Bought a house

This blog will predominantly be based around topics of personal finance, travel and self development, while I fully intend to Regularly go off on a tangent and blog about anything else that interests me – from futurism (i.e. how trends are changing and looking at trends), to any of the things listed above. This blog is not written to make money, nor is it written to promote any companies or businesses. I’m just here to tell my story to anyone who wants to listen  🙂
