Do-it-yourself projects are an amazing way to save money. If you are willing to do these projects, you’ll likely never run low of funds. That’s because most of the money you make, you can keep. You won’t be constantly paying others to manage areas of your life. You can do it yourself. The following post includes the many, many DIY jobs you can do with nothing more than YouTube and a willingness to learn. Let’s get started!
Cutting Your Own Hair
Male or female – either gender can cut their hair at home. Of course, it’s easiest with an assistant. Try to get a brother, sister, boyfriend, girlfriend, friend, someone to help you. But even if you’re not comfortable asking for help, you can still do it at home. Simply go to YouTube to get inspired. Things you’ll need include clippers (if you want a short haircut) scissors, a comb, a hand mirror, good lighting, an idea of what you want the finished product to look like and at least an hour on your first try. It’s easier than it seems like it would be. You’ll save tons of money each year. Invest it and think of how much you’ll have by the time you retire. Likely tens of thousands in extra money!
Cooking
You can learn how to become an excellent chef with nothing more than YouTube. You can watch hour after hour of many things cooking related. Want to make a delicious Italian dinner for your hot date? There’s a video for that! Want to learn how to cut your own potato chips? There’s a video for that? Want to see the difference between a chef’s knife and a boning knife? There’s a video for that!
Cooking saves big money. Plus, the food always seems to taste better when you’ve cooked it. And it’s one of those things that nearly anyone can do well on some level. With YouTube, you’ll save thousands a year vs. eating out!
Fixing a Scratch on Your Car
You walk to your car. There’s a horrendous scratch down the side. Was it an ex-girlfriend who did it? An angry classmate? The man who thought you stole his cat? Whatever the reason, you can fix it yourself. There are many amazing YouTube videos that walk you through how to fix any type of scratch. Some videos are even shot by professionals. This means you know you have as much information as the professionals.
Redoing Hardwood Flooring
Homes with original hardwood flooring are becoming more and more rare. But with a DIY attitude plus YouTube, you’ll be repairing your floors in no time. These videos show exactly what’s needed in order to get your floors looking brand new again. I also find that people in home renovation are really pleasant to listen to as well. They are very good teachers.
Fixing a Flat Tire on Your Push Bike
No more taking your biking to the shop to fix a flat. There are numerous YouTube videos which demonstrate the tire patching process. These are especially handy if you need a refresher course while riding. Simply pull out your phone, follow along in the video and you’ll be back riding in no time.
Building a Website
It’s not uncommon for a glorious looking website to cost tens of thousands of pounds. But most websites needn’t be that elaborate. Actually, most websites with fewer than 1,000 page views per day can do quite well on simply a free theme on WordPress. This means the site is already outlined for you. You then fill in the text, rearrange a few little things and you’re nearly there. Mind you, this process will still take hours and hours. But it’s not like you’re having to design the website from scratch. If you feel comfortable using apps and browsing the internet, you can modify a WordPress theme.
Replacing Kitchen Cabinets
This job sounds daunting at first. But after watching a few YouTube videos, the process is really quite doable. This is especially true if you’re placing the new cabinets in the same location as your old. This means you don’t need to do a lot of adjusting of appliances or anything like that. Many cabinets even include instructions. I’ve never done all the cabinets in the kitchen myself. But I lived in a house that was remodeled. The guy was a computer programmer by day. He did our kitchen on a Saturday and it only took him that day to finish. It was a fairly large kitchen. Sometimes big projects look overwhelming. But sometimes it’s the biggest projects that are the easiest.
Changing Your Car’s Oil
Ever done an oil change? Now you can. Very easily as well. There are tons of YouTube videos demonstrating the process. It’s helpful when you can see exactly how it’s done. What’s also nice is the process is pretty much universal. This means you don’t have to worry if you can’t find a video of someone changing the oil on your exact make, model and year. This DIY job doesn’t require many tools either so that’s a bonus!
Which DIY project will you tackle first?
It’s best to tackle whatever projects you can handle that’ll save real money. This is why things like making your own clothing is silly. It’s so cheap to just buy a new t-shirt. But for anything listed above, it’s worth trying to do it yourself. You’ll save tons of money you can invest which can then turn into more and more money. Happy hammering!
